Fifty-year-old notebooks full of stories are being given new life and the author is hoping the work will inspire the current generation, too.

Suzy Carruth Kuperschmidt was cleaning out her garage when she located several old beat up Beatles notebooks. Inside were hundreds of stories written by herself in the third grade when she was growing up in El Paso, Texas.

“I started reading them and they’re juvenile, to say the least, but I thought wouldn’t it be fun to make a book out of these,” she said.

Two years ago Carruth Kuperschmidt began the process of finding a publisher or a self-publishing company that would complete her vision of a book, titled “Ramblings of a Third Grader.” A family friend designed the book cover and another family friend, and an illustrator from the show “Archer,” brought the stories and ideas to life through drawings. With the colorful illustrations and stories written by her childhood self the result is a book Carruth Kuperschmidt hopes will be enjoyable for adults and kids.

“I think most adults my age can remember writing something like this,” Carruth Kuperschmidt said. “It has appeal to nostalgia of when things were just simpler. You rode your bike, you played outside, and you wrote your stories.”

Each page of the book includes a page from the 50-year-old notebook and an illustration of the entry. It also includes an explanation from current-day Suzy and a question for kids to consider.

Carruth Kuperschmidt said she hopes the book will inspire kids to write down their own stories.

To bring the book to life Carruth Kuperschmidt plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign in February. For more information on the project or the book, visitwww.ramblingsofathirdgrader.com.
